Dewshill

(Dewshills)
North Lanarkshire

A locality split by the M8 Motorway in North Lanarkshire, Dewshill (or Dewshills) lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west southwest of Forrestburn Reservoir and a mile (1.5 km) northeast of Kirk o' Shotts. To the north of the motorway, Dewshills Farm sits amongst a post-industrial landscape, where quarrying and mining activity once took place. Dewshill & Duntilland Colliery employed 240 men in 1910 but closed in 1943. Some of these men and their families were accommodated in Dewshill Cottages, now located immediately to the south of the motorway. A sizeable quarry still operates at Duntilland to the west with another, Cairneyhill Quarry, a mile (1.5 km) to the north.

The name of the farm is mis-recorded on the Ordnance Survey Explorer map as "Dewsmills" (2019).
