A location on the Solway Firth coast of Dumfries and Galloway, Barnhourie lies 1¼ miles (2 km) east of Colvend and 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Dalbeattie. The Barnhourie Bridge crosses the Barnhourie Burn, which separates the settlement from Sandyhills. Newbarns Loch, to the west, is recorded as Barnhourie Loch on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map (1854). The Barnhourie Sands lie offshore, 3 miles (5 km) to the southeast.
