New College Lanarkshire

(Cumbernauld College)

A further education institution with campuses in North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire, New College Lanarkshire was formed in 2013 as a merger Cumbernauld College and Motherwell College. Coatbridge College joined the following year. The college offers a particularly broad range of courses, mostly focussed towards the communities in which it is based but also attracting students from around the world. There are two campuses in Cumbernauld; the Town Centre campus which opened in 1978 as Cumbernauld Technical College and now represents the headquarters of New College, while sports performance courses are based at Broadwood. Cumbernauld Technical College was originally meant to be part of the Town Centre complex, but was build as a separate building. The Motherwell campus moved into new buildings in 2009 at the cost of £70 million. Coatbridge College claims to be Scotland's oldest further education institution, founded in 1865 as a science school and mining college. An additional campus at Southbank Marina in Kirkintilloch (East Dunbartonshire) was originally part of Cumbernauld College and focuses on business, education and leisure and tourism, while a new campus was opened in 2014 in Hamilton (South Lanarkshire).
