Loch Sholum

The larger of a pair of small lochs on the southern slopes of Beinn Sholum in the S of the island of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, Loch Sholum extends to 9.5 ha (23.6 acres), 2¾ miles (4.5 km) northeast of Port Ellen. The loch is fed from the neighbouring Lochan Sholum, to the east, and drains to the south via the Abhainn Smithil. Known together as the Sholum Lochs, they supply water to Lagavulin Distillery.
