Alvah is a coastal parish, which lies in Aberdeenshire Council Area, some 6 miles (9 km) northwest of Turriff and 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Huntly in Aberdeenshire.
It is located in the old county of Banffshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.
The parish has an area of 51 sq. km (19.7 sq. miles). Alvah has 6 neighbouring parishes; namely Banff, Forglen, Gamrie, King Edward, Marnoch and Turriff. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889.
