Avonhead

North Lanarkshire

A location in North Lanarkshire which was once a small collier settlement, Avonhead lies 1¼ miles (2 km) east southeast of Greengairs, a similar distance west of Upperton and 1½ miles (2.5 km) northwest of Caldercruix. There was once a school here but the settlement has been denuded by opencast coal workings that replaced the deep mines which once dominated the area.

The River Avon rises a half-mile (0.8 km) to the southwest.
